SOMETHING ABOUT ME
A Note From AJ
Hi, I’m AJ, and I have been writing for well over a decade now. I work in construction as a daily job, working for a local contractor as a field foreman. I love the area I live in, and take full advantage of the mountainous terrain during the summer months – when my job allows, of course. I have given a lot of myself to the writing of these books in the hopes that you –my faithful reader– will enjoy the many worlds I have created for you. During my time writing, I have enjoyed seeing each story come to life on the page, but it was a hard road; a long road. I've never been officially trained as a writer –no Juilliard here– but I plied what I knew and struggled to learn how to properly use the English language so it might be easier for the reader to comprehend.

I have always had a fairly creative mind, and spent many years playing guitar in a local rock band. We did alright, I suppose, traveling and touring the local establishments, and one major tour. We, my band and I, went on this tour with a nationally acclaimed band who was hot at the time. It saddens me to say, we couldn’t follow the one piece of advice given to us on that fateful tour; You guys are really good...STAY TOGETHER.
Needless to say, our band broke up soon after returning home from that tour; we'd had nearly ten years of playing together as a band and –I was under the impression– we were happy. But I was wrong. I just couldn't see the unease in the rest of the band; even though I was aware of how things were changing. However, I didn’t let that slow me down, as these types of things often happen in life; people change, society changes, and life moves on. Subsequently, I threw myself into my work and managed to become… I don’t know… Well liked? Looked up to? Respected? Anyway, I did the best job I knew how and soon became senior foreman in the company I work for.

On another note:
One day my two daughters challenged me to a contest to see who could write the best suspense in a scene; my kids were 8 and 10 years of age, at the time. I sat down at my word processor and –never one to know when to stop– I wrote the outline for book 2 of the Lassiter series; and it was a hefty outline of roughly half a inch thick. I know … book 2? And it did wind up being book 2. But during the initial creation of the piece I mentioned –and this was only mentioned in passing– a previous case and viola book 1 The Bronco Files, was born.I have subsequently poured a lot more time and energy into the series, and am pleased with the evolution of, not only my cast, but the richness of the overall story line.
I learned a lot during my trials and tribulations of becoming a writer. Now that I think back on my life, I wish I'd spent more time paying attention in Language Arts class. It's funny when I think about it. When you're a kid things seem so far away, but the older you get, the shorter the distance between them becomes. What I mean to say is; If I knew then what I know now, I would have taken the time to finish the things I gave up on. I would have applied myself better, and I would have taken the time to appreciate, not only where I was, but who I was with. They say youth is wasted on the young, but I disagree; being young is not the issue, it's the mentality of the young that comes into question. Only time can teach correctly, and experience is the great instructor, if you are lucky enough to live through it. I think I would have done the same things, but I would have appreciated them more. What I mean to say is; life is short, so stop and look around once in a while. When I think back on things I realize that I never would have discovered this world of the mind –the joys of writing– without the love and support of my two daughters and my loving wife.
Thanks for reading.
